Do I need to have an International Driver’s Permit to drive abroad?

You may need an international driving permit (IDP) to drive in some countries. Whether you are eligible to apply for one depends on:
1.which country you’re visiting
2.whether you have reached the lowest age requirement of the destination country (mostly 18 years old)
3.whether you have a valid driver license (learning permit or driver permit is not allowed) long you’re staying (normally 1-12 months visiting).

What information do I need to provide in the application?

You will need to fill out our online form and submit the required documents: a copy of your current driving license and a passport size photo.

What if my domestic driving license is expired?

We recommend that you renew your license. We can't guarantee that rental agencies will accept an expired license with your International Driver’s Permit.

Do I qualify to apply for an IDP?

Over 200 nationalities are eligible to apply, all you need is a valid driving license from your home country.

Is the International Driver’s Permit a valid form of ID and does it replace my domestic driving license?

No. An International Driver’s Permit is not a standalone document. It's only a translation that should be presented with your domestic driving license.

How long does it take to get a digital International Driver’s Permit?

Usually within 2~3 working days you will receive the PDF file ready to print.

What are the risks of not having an International Driver’s Permit?

It might differ from country to country. The main risks are not being able to rent vehicles and being fined by local authorities. We highly recommend that you refer to the local embassy resource guide (often found online), before visiting foreign countries.

What circumstance the International Driver's Permit do not apply?

The International Driver's Permit is normally for foreign tourists who travel for short period. not available for foreign students and long-term residents. Foreign students and long-term residents should follow the local driver's license policy to apply for a driver's license. And in Japan, Spain, Russia, Korea, Sri Lanka, the International Driver's Permit do not apply due to local policy.
