  • Do I need an International Driver’s Permit to drive abroad?
You may need an International Driver's Permit (IDP) to drive in some countries. Your eligibility for application depends on: 1. The country you’re visiting 2. Meeting the age requirement of the destination country (usually18 years old) 3. Having a valid driver's license (learner's permit is not allowed) 4. Planned duration of your stay (usually 1-12 months)
  • Do I qualify to apply for an IDP?
Over 200 nationalities are eligible to apply, all you need is a valid driver's license from your home country.
  • What information do I need to provide in the application?
You will need to fill out our online form and submit the required documents: a copy of your current driving license and a passport size photo.
  • How long does it take to get a digital International Driver’s Permit?
You will receive a print ready PDF document in 2 to 3 working days.
  • Is the International Driver’s Permit a valid form of ID and does it replace my domestic driver's license?
No. An International Driver’s Permit is not a standalone document. It's a translation that should be presented with your domestic driver's license.
  • What are the risks of not having an International Driver’s Permit?
It differs from one country to another. The most common risks include inability to rent vehicles and being fined by the local authorities. Before travelling, we advise you to get familiar with the recommendations of the local embassy (perhaps online).
  • What if my domestic driver's license is expired?
We recommend you to renew the license. Rental agencies are unlikely to accept an expired license with your International Driver’s Permit.
  • In what circumstance does the International Driver's Permit not apply?
The International Driver's Permit is mainly for foreign tourists who travel for short periods of time. It is not appropriate for foreign students and long-term residents and they should follow the local policy to apply for a driver's license. In Japan, Spain, Russia, Korea, Taiwan(China), and Sri Lanka the International Driver's Permit is not valid due to the local policy.
